"Lightning Bolt! Lightning Bolt!"

Um, wow.

At least they're getting their exercise.

Let's do some numbers, shall we?

I stopped checking my three email accounts at approximately 1pm on Thursday, June 19. I spent the better part of the next three days at my church's annual retreat. Excellent teaching in the beautiful Lake Tahoe area.

Got back on Sunday, checked my email at 4:30pm.

Final tally: 184 messages while I was away. 175 of those messages were unsolicited bulk mail—spam (cue 'lurking evil' music).

Don't bother reaching for your calculator—that comes out to over 95% of my email being junk...which puts me above average (I think estimates say about 75% of all mail is spam).

Do I support legislation against this sort of stuff? You bet I do.

Still a work-in-progress. Comments welcome.

Unlike Untitled from the previous entry, this isn't a totally random image. I was reflecting on how hard it is for me to describe things that I'm passionate about to other people. Far too many conversations kinda go like this...

"So what are you interested in again?"

"Aesthetics and computing. I'm really interested in ways that technology can be applied to fields not traditionally associated with computers, like music, or art, or literature."

Confused look. "Ah."

Or even better...

"There's something inherently beautiful about CSS that I just can't explain."

Confused look. "That's nice."

So...yeah. I think it's amazing how God's wired different people to be passionate about different things, and yet...sometimes it's so frustrating trying to even nudge people to see the world the way you do...not because they aren't sincere about wanting to know, but because you yourself struggle to find the words that really bring that passion across. So, Intangible is just a sort of visual interpretation/reaction to that sort of passion...rather than trying to use words, I'm trying to use an image.

I just said "visual interpretation/reaction." Man, I'm artsy fartsy.

Photoshop is fun. Procrastination is bad.

Deer and fire.

It's currently called Untitled. Go ahead and post suggestions for names in the comments. Ok, back to my final paper for English.

Well, I take back what I said about LISP in my last entry...after a while, it actually kinda grows on you, and I ended up being kinda decent at it.

PROLOG, on the other hand, is the demonspawn of the combined forces of all that is evil in this universe.

Quite appropriately, PROLOG is the basis of many languages used for artificial intelligence, and thus will be to blame when the machines take over.

LISP stands for "Lots of Idiotic and Stupid Parentheses"

What, you think I'm tired, exhausted, and frustrated? Nahhh.

Speaking of LISP, does anyone know offhand, without looking in a dictionary, what the word "apothem" means? It was used in a geometry homework problem for one of my students at work. We couldn't find it in the book, nor in any dictionaries that were there. None of the smart math people we employ knew, either.

So our best guess was an opossum with a lisp. Get it? Apothem.

Yeah, I'm tired.
