Say again?

While taking a look at the top singles in the UK today, I saw a phrase that I never thought I'd read:

"Tupac Shakur, featuring Elton John…"

Uh…what?

I think it's really amusing reading all these little phrases surrounding celebrities that few people expected to hear just a few years ago. Some of my favorites include:

"Governor Schwarzenegger today announced…"

"…with Ashton Kutcher reprising Sidney Poitier's role…"

"…a collaboration between Wyclef Jean and Kenny Rogers…"

Did I miss any good ones? What are your favorites?

"UC Davis Stuns Stanford For Improbabe 20-17 Win"

Wow. This is one of the biggest football victories in school history—if not the biggest. For those of you not familiar with college football, UCD is transitioning from Division II to Division I-AA. Stanford, as a Division I-A team, is supposed to be bigger, faster, and stronger. Clearly, not so.

Unfortunately, I wasn't at the game, which is tragic since I was offered discounted tickets as a GSM alum. I didn't even think to take them up on the offer—partially, I admit, because I figured we'd be crushed. As I listened to the game on KDVS, though, it quickly became evident that the Aggies were the better team on the field.

I would have loved to have been there and have that moment etched in my memory. Instead, I have the chat log I had with John as we both listened to the game.

Coincidental Patterns

Sunday night, I had the oddest dream: I watched as A7 Corsair IIs dropped bombs on a modern urban landscape. Now I love aviation and planes—especially combat jets—but I wouldn't list the Corsair II as a particular favorite. I woke up Monday morning wondering why I would dream of something like that.

Corsair IIs are oft-overlooked relics from the Vietnam War era, and they hardly get the attention that contemporary jets do, or even that of their World War II predecessors. I probably haven't had a second thought about them in the past decade. So I was quite surprised and a little weirded out when I saw a Corsair II at noon the very next day.

Paraguay is a landlocked South American country of about 6 million people, all of whom are wonderful, and at least one of whom visits my site.

Never thought I'd post another entry in my "New Orleans" category. This has definitely been a surreal experience for the four of us who went to the Big Easy back in April.
