Yet another "let's see how many comments I can get" game. Custom comment signature for this one, and if it goes well, I may post another game, this time with a substantially more valuable prize.
[Update, 12/22/2005] Well, Nathan won that one pretty easily. C'mon, people, that was an easy one. Next you should guess words like "the," "and", and "yeehaw" (it was a country song, after all).
This is an idea for a web game that's been bouncing around in my head for about a week. I've always wanted to have a game where I post lyrics, and then people identify the song. The only thing is, anyone half-decent with Google would be able to get an answer pretty quickly. Now I think I have a way around that.
Since someone can find a song pretty easily by doing a search on a phrase, I'm going to start by posting individual words. I'll have one word per line of the lyric, and won't specify how long the line is (though I will try to show the general placement of the word in the line).
To play, simply post a guess for a word in the lyrics, in the same way contestants guess about letters in Wheel of Fortune. Since I'm at work most of the day, I'll only be checking when I have breaks, so there can be multiple guesses but only one guess per person between my responses.
The idea is that eventually, enough of the song will be revealed for someone to either correctly guess or Google the answer. First correct guess will be the winner.
So…here's the first lyrical snippet:
Six lanes, tail lights
Red ants marching into the night
They disappear to the left and right again
Another supper from a sack
A 99-cent heart attack
I got a pounding head and an aching back[...]
And the camels standing in a big straw stack.
Edit: I updated the original version: if you searched for the words I posted in order, Google STILL found the right lyrics. Wow.
Alright…start guessing!

since i haven't the faintest idea what this song is about nor do i have my eye on any prize (i know you're keeping those tickets to timbuktu to yourself!) here goes nothing: Six [...] - my guess would have to be 'fingers.'
Sorry, DV, nope.
I'll give this a try too.
For "[...] stack" -- is it 'short'?
Hi Marz,
No, sorry. Please note that [...] can stand for more than one word.
It might be a good idea to try a really common word first, like a preposition, article, or conjunction.

Booyah.
Nathan wins! I don't know if I'd call it a "secret" love anymore.
